Overview

Immersion into the Douglas Daly agricultural region, showcasing integrated beef, cotton, grain and horticulture systems, with a strong focus on soils, moisture monitoring and amelioration practices.

Planned Route – Southern Loop (from Darwin)
  1. Douglas Daly Research Farm – Government mixed-farming research and demonstration facility at the junction of the Douglas and Daly Rivers, underpinning beef and cropping development in the region.
  2. Ceres Farm – On-farm soil amelioration trials and moisture monitoring demonstrations focused on improving productivity and resilience.
  3. Douglas Station (or Black Bull Station) – Corn and cotton grown for improved cattle feeding, showcasing crop–livestock integration in practice.
  4. Tipperary Station – Large-scale mixed-enterprise station demonstrating northern beef systems supported by cropping and fodder production.
Catering
  • Morning tea and afternoon tea (served on bus or at sites – TBC).
  • Lunch: Adelaide River Pub (proposed). Backup option: Douglas Station (station catered or packed lunches).

Overview

Short drive from Darwin into one of Australia’s most diverse horticulture and aquaculture precincts, featuring tropical fruits, turf and intensive production systems across the coastal plains.

Planned Route – Southern Loop (from Darwin)

  1. Coastal Plains Research Station (Middle Point) – Government research facility near Adelaide River at Middle Point, approximately 65 km by road east–south-east of Darwin, supporting animal production, horticulture and pasture R&D.
  2. Tropical Turf Farm – Commercial turf production with a focus on irrigation management, soil health and market supply into Darwin and beyond.
  3. Tropical Horticulture –production systems, trellising and market pathways for fresh tropical fruit.

Catering

  • Pre-catered lunch at Fogg Dam Reserve (picnic-style, near Middle Point).
  • Morning tea and afternoon tea (served on bus or at sites – TBC).

Half-day showcase of intensive horticulture and nursery enterprises close to Darwin, highlighting innovation, scaling-up stories and local supply chains.

Planned Route – Southern Loop (from Darwin)

  1. Niceforo Farms – Berry Springs – Part of the Niceforo Farms network, one of the NT’s largest mango suppliers, operating multiple mango orchards across the Territory including sites near Darwin.
  2. Plantsmith Nursery – Coolalinga – Commercial nursery operation supplying ornamentals and plants into Darwin’s landscaping and retail markets.

Catering

  • Morning tea (served on bus or at sites – TBC).
  • ½-day format – no lunch provided.
